I am passionate about technology and entrepreneurship. I began my career at Oracle Consulting, where I built rapid prototypes for the next generation of single-instance internet systems. After honing my skills at Oracle, my entrepreneurial spirit took over, and six years later, I had founded TVM—a pioneer in video analytics and intelligent command and control. Our team supported high-profile police operations throughout the UK by applying cutting-edge technology to deliver reliable, operational systems. After raising venture capital and growing the business, I sold it to Bowmer and Kirkland and moved on to bet365.
At bet365, the world’s largest online bookmaker, I led the R&D team to tackle the massive scale challenges caused by in-play betting. We adopted novel technologies—such as Erlang, Elixir, Riak, and Go to ensure the platform remained fast and reliable for millions of users. I helped revolutionise an industry with groundbreaking systems that were both massively scalable and highly reliable 24*7*365.
After six years, I moved on to lead the innovation team at Lloyds Bank, collaborating with the Bank of England to transform regulatory reporting. One of our key breakthroughs was a domain-specific language (DSL) called UMLANG, which could produce both compilable code and human-readable text to improve transparency and consistency in reporting.
Next, I joined aws in a leadership role within the innovation team, working with their largest customers to identify product gaps. Through customer interaction I uncovered the difficulty customers faced in visualising their evolving cloud architectures. To solve this, I led the creation of aws Workload Discovery, a digital twin that provides greater insight into cloud deployments.
From there, I joined the start-up Huler to bootstrap and launch its fresh employee experience platform, HulerHub. Working with a small team during the pandemic, I successfully brought the product to market on AWS. My next challenge was at Improbable, a metaverse company renowned for creating the world’s most scalable virtual experiences. I led the technical and product teams to adapt this technology for enterprise and defence sectors, successfully onboarding clients seeking next-level immersive simulations.
